North Shore Beaches

A little jet lagged and excited I was up super early on our first full day in Hawaii, so I decided to walk to the beach and watch the sun rise.  More people were awake than I realized and mom and Riley decided to come to.  We weren't quite early enough for the actually sunrise, but early enough to get some great sunrise looking pictures.
These are the flowers that grow everywhere around the house we are staying at... in December!
This is the neighbors papaya tree.  Mom was trying to figure out what those were and finally asked the neighbor.  He gave us some to try.
Walking to the beach.
Riley LOVES playing in the waves.  This was his second time to a beach and when I asked him about it he said this was his first time to the Hawaii beach... "the REAL one."
Riley, Catherine and my footprints.
Mom said she had hoped to see crabs on the beach and there weren't any, so I made her this one.  This trip is about making ALL of mom's wishes come true.
This is the weirdest tree right on the beach.  It has bouys of all colors and sizes on it.
Mom was having fun scavenging for treasures on the beach.
This one was my favorite because she isn't posing for a picture.  I was doing something else and when I turned around and noticed her she was standing like this with her giant leaf find.  I think she was pretending to be a Hawaiian princess :).
She was most proud of this find though.  It was a whole coconut floating in the ocean.
She fell in the ocean trying to get it out.  I felt kind of rude taking pictures instead of helping, but no one ever regretted getting a little wet in Hawaii, but they do regret not getting great pictures of great moments.  I think in the end she was happy to have gotten it herself.
See, she's happy!
Snow Sand angels on the beach!
This is the same beach by our house with a rope swing.

Later in the day we went to Turtle Beach
Turtle Beach

There were actual giant sea turtles (two are in this picture) and we could see them swimming too.

We couldn't swim at turtle beach though so we got some lunch and watched giant waves at a different beach.
Anneli and Riley watching waves.  We couldn't swim here either.  The current was too strong.
So off to another beach to swim, except we couldn't swim there either.  Turns out the North Shore is known for it's giant waves and strong current.  Lots of professional surfers, but no swimming allowed for the general public.  So, we played in the sand and took naps on the beach. (I was one of the nappers, hence not many pictures of this part).
Back home for the evening, resting for tomorrow.
Good Night!
