After sleeping in, we headed to the John Johnson farm where Joseph Smith lived with the Johnson family for a year. |
One of the kitchens in the Johnson home. |
A lot of the woodwork in the home was stained with this, and various other patterns. It was the style of the time. |
Another one of the kitchens where you can again see the painted woodwork on the mantel. |
This was a sitting room where the prophet would read scriptures and discuss church matters with other leaders. |
The floor in the Revelation room is original to the building. Here I am standing on the same floor boards that the prophet walked on and that witnessed many of his revelations. |
This is likely the bedroom that an angry mom broke into and pulled Joseph Smith from his bed at night. They brutally beat then tarred and feathered him. |
Here you can see the door that the mob entered the house from and its relation to the bedroom. |
The inside hardware, especially the top lock is original to the building. Here I am touching the same handle that Joseph Smith himself touched when locking up for the night. |
Joseph Smith often stood on the back porch of the John Johnson house to preach, and even did so the day after he was attacked by the mob to fulfill a promise he had made to teach. |
Here we all are standing on that same porch. |
The carriage house |
The farm and surroundings were crazy pretty! |

Karen also has to make a treat for the kids each week as well as meals for them at various times throughout the year. Tonight she made an amazing peach cobbler. Yummmmm!!! |
