Ohio- Day 2: John Johnson Farm and Institute

Brian decided that he wanted to have a contest for the best way to arrange the pillows on their bed with a different person creating the design each day and a vote at the end.  This his pillow entry for today.

After sleeping in, we headed to the John Johnson farm where Joseph Smith lived with the Johnson family for a year.

One of the kitchens in the Johnson home.

A lot of the woodwork in the home was stained with this, and various other patterns.  It was the style of the time.

Another one of the kitchens where you can again see the painted woodwork on the mantel.

This was a sitting room where the prophet would read scriptures and discuss church matters with other leaders.

Joseph Smith was eventually given an office in the house and this room has become known as the "Revelation Room."  It is the third place where Jesus Christ AND Heavenly Father both appeared to him (the second being the Jacob Morley Farm).
The floor in the Revelation room is original to the building.  Here I am standing on the same floor boards that the prophet walked on and that witnessed many of his revelations.

This is likely the bedroom that an angry mom broke into and pulled Joseph Smith from his bed at night.  They brutally beat then tarred and feathered him.

Here you can see the door that the mob entered the house from and its relation to the bedroom.

The inside hardware, especially the top lock is original to the building.  Here I am touching the same handle that Joseph Smith himself touched when locking up for the night.

Joseph Smith often stood on the back porch of the John Johnson house to preach, and even did so the day after he was attacked by the mob to fulfill a promise he had made to teach.

Here we all are standing on that same porch.

The farm and surroundings were crazy pretty!

After running some errands and catching up with some things at home, we headed off to Institute to hear Brian and Karen teach their lesson.  They teach each week and work closely with the young single adults.  This is the building the work from.

Karen also has to make a treat for the kids each week as well as meals for them at various times throughout the year.  Tonight she made an amazing peach cobbler.  Yummmmm!!!
